Summer Student - Technology Systems & Support Assistant

2702 Norland Avenue, Burnaby BC, V5B 3A9 Full-time

Must meet the following criteria:

  • Be between 15 & 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations

RATE OF PAY:            $15.00 per hour + 9.8% in lieu of scheduled vacations and paid holidays
HOURS:                       35 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Hours will be set between 8:30-4:30 with flexiblitiy. 
DURATION:                 15 weeks
START DATE:             May 20-25, 2018 


The Technology Systems & Support Assistant will work as part Tech Team to help train and implement and new software for the organization and support staff and individuals with the day to day technology support needs. BACI is dedicated to ensuring individuals with disabilities and their support networks are full participants in their community and view technology as an integral tool to achieving this end.

The Technology Systems & Support Assistant will be responsible for handling all information and files in a confidential and professional manner and will be report to the Manager of Technology.

Duties will include, but are not limited to: research, transferring written information into web based database applications, creation of user accounts, liaising with staff and supervisors to facilitate the resolution of communication/technology problems, data input, desktop publishing, data analysis and development of information for the outcomes management report, website support, and developing and maintaining a database to support and track involvement of individuals’ participation in special events.


This position will be of particular interest to students enrolled in diploma or degree programs in the areas of Computer Systems & Science, Media Design and Web Development, UX and Interaction Design, as this position will provide career-related experience.  However, students enrolled at the post secondary level and who can demonstrate sound knowledge and skill with computer applications but are enrolled in other programs such as administration, Community Support worker, therapeutic recreation, etc., will be considered.  Successful applicants will be required to have experience with databases and customer services. Successful applicants must also demonstrate attention to detail as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills with all people receiving services within the organization. Successful student applicants will be required to have a current First Aid and CPR certification (employer is willing to provide), and a negative TB test screening before commencing employment.
